How to Book Air Ticket for Less
How airline set the prices
Airline price is set by three main factors: Inventory. competition and demand. Have you ever thought, how a one-way flight is just as expensive as a round-trip ticket? Airlines change their prices based on demand. If a certain flight is selling well, the price will increase. If another flight has no takers, the fare will drop until the airline gets some. As a result, fares and inventory are changing every minute.
Internet travel sites and travel agents use the central reservation systems which are updated periodically during the day, that explains why different searches may yield different results.
The search algorithms are different, resulting in varied fares.
It is cheaper to fly at odd hours when fewer people are traveling, as the demand will be less. You might have noticed a very high fare during major holidays and certain week days.
If one airlines drops the price in a certain route, others will follow suite.
Airlines divides seats on each flight into several price ranges and set aside a certain number of discounted tickets. They advertise the lowest fares highly to draw attention. By the time you are there to book the ticket, those seats will be gone.
Tricks to beat the price
- Search early: Generally prices will be lower before 21 days before departure. Sometimes you will get very cheap last minute e-fares, they are listed by individual airlines on their web sites.
- Always ask for lowest fares, saying that your dates are flexible. You can change the dates if the price is the most important factor.
- If you are flexible on the time of flight, you increase your chances of getting a cheap flight. Remember no one wants to depart at 2 a.m. and arrive at 6 a.m.
- Use the same airline for both directions. Since round trips are about the same as one-way tickets, it doesn’t make sense not to.
- Keep trying. You may get a discounted seat on an Airline which was full before.
- Check smaller discount airlines
- Check other destination airports apart from the main one.
- Join a travel club. If you fly more than twice a year, the price of joining can easily make up for itself in the long run.
- Try many sources as possible
- Booking through Internet
Make sure the site is secured one. Look for the security “Lock” symbol before entering the credit card information.
Boarding Pass
Print boarding passes online usually a day before your flight.
Confirmation
You may want to check directly with the airlines, immediately after paying for your tickets, to make sure that you are holding confirmed reservations.
